I have had many fun weekends at JXR digging for amethyst and meeting many nice rockhounds. This week we hit a pocket that took our breath away. We were digging in the North end of the Big Hole trying out our Double Mojo digging bars (a must have tool in the pit). At first we were finding a good deal of small very light purple crystals with great shapes. After about an hour I heard Robert say "Hello". I lturned to see a single crystal face exposed in the wall that was about the size of a silver dollar. Just the one face. Not wanting to break the crystal Robert moved several inches away to get behind the crystal. As he popped out another chunk of dirt behind it he found another crystal. This went on for about half an hour and the first crystal has still in the wall. The pocket just kept going. Here are some of the crystal from that pocket - Check back as not all of the crystals have been cleaned yet! Click pictiures to enlarge.

We almost called in sick to work the next day so that we could search for the next pocket but decided it would be better to come back Saturday the 7th. After all, it is the middle of the week how many people would be out to dig and willing to stand in a 2 foot deep freezing cold puddle of mud? When we arrived at JXR Saturday we found that someone was willing to do just that and had moved A Lot of material! The freezing cold puddle of mud was now filled in. This made the dig much more comfortable than we were expecting. After about a half hour of moving dirt and rocks and making sure the wall was safe. We hit another pocket. This one was no where near as big and crystals were not as deep purple but it made for a nice dig. Click Pictures to enlarge.
Robert and Lisa also pulled some crystals from this pocket. Check back for their pictures!
