December 2005 Hogg Mine Adventure
With many Thanks to Rodney Moore of dixieeuhedrals.com for making so many Georgia collecting site accessible
The Hogg mine is another excellent collecting site. Cabbers and Facetors will love digging here as you will find months worth of cabbing rough. That may sound like the beggining of a wild story but believe me - you will be tripping over extra fine grade Rose Quartz! We first noticed facet grade Rose Quartz in the middle of the driveway. I turned to Robert and said "If this is what they drive over, we are about to have a real good dig." And we did!

What we have pictured here is a small sample of the days finds. All of the Tourmaline pictured has well formed natural terminations. The Rose Quartz was hard to photograph. It is a bit deeper pink than it appears here. We each found a few pieces of Beryl. From one of the pieces I found I have cut one cab and will get a second stone about the same size (18mm x 12mm) Very translucent material! Next time we dig at the Hogg mine we will focus more on the Beryl.
To the left is the material I have not cleaned up yet and to the right is a guitar pick that I cut for Rodney from some very High Grade Rose Quartz found that day.
Keep checking back for stories of our collecting trips. We are Planning to dig at JXR 12/27/05 and 12/28/05. Have a look at what we found last time at JXR
